The brief
The Ruhrtriennale performs in places never built for events: century halls, machine houses, coking plants. That is exactly what makes the productions special, and exactly what makes the rigging challenging. Instead of standardised hall ceilings with documented load ratings, you meet historic steel structures where every single hang has to be assessed individually.
Then there is heritage protection: interventions in the building fabric are off limits, and every solution has to disappear without a trace.
The execution
SilverBones planned and executed rigging points for Ruhrtriennale productions: surveying the load-bearing structure, load calculations in exchange with structural engineers, rigging gear and load distribution chosen to protect the historic construction. The work ran in close coordination with technical management and the venue operator, including documentation for approval.
The result
Sets, lighting and sound hung safely in halls older than the industry itself. For us, one of the best examples that good rigging does not start with the truss. It starts with the planning.
